Premier Pediatrics

Premier Pediatrics was opened in 2001 by Robert K. Dowse, M.D., FAAP. Since that time, the providers and staff have dedicated themselves to making the clinic first choice for pediatrics care.

Both practicing physicians, Dr. Robert Dowse and Gia D. Miller, M.D., FAAP are board certified and members of American Academy of Pediatrics. They both specialize in pediatrics.

Certified Family Nurse Practitioner Darlene Jones-Wilcox, FNP-C also works in pediatrics and has special interest in adolescence and teenage female healthcare. Physician Assistant Dayne Johnson, PA-C is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and focuses on pediatrics and urgent care.

All of the staff at Premier Pediatrics stays current on healthcare practices and policies to ensure each patient receives the best possible care and that all health codes are being met.

Robert K. Dowse

Robert K. Dowse, M.D., FAAP

Robert K. Dowse, M.D., FAAP is the owner and one of the board certified pediatricians at Premier Pediatrics. Dr. Dowse has a total of 17 years experience in pediatrics.

Currently, Dr. Dowse is the Director of Valley View Medial Center for the Level II Nursery, a physician representative of Iron County School District and a physician representative for Iron County Head Start Program. He is also a member of the Utah Medial Association and a fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Dowse received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Creighton University and completed his residency in pediatrics at the University of Nebraska. In addition to English, Dr. Dowse speaks Portuguese as a primary language and Spanish as a secondary language.

Dr. Dowse was born in Pomona, California and moved to Salt Lake City, Utah when he was a teenager. He has lived in Utah for 35 years and has spent 10 of those years residing in Cedar City, Utah.

Dr. Dowse, his wife Linda, and their four children, Megan, Taylor, Jackson and Jenne enjoy traveling, Disney cruise ships, music, dance, movies and swimming in their pool.

Gia D. Miller

Gia D. Miller, M.D., FAAP

Gia D. Miller, M.D., FAAP is a board certified pediatrician at Premier Pediatrics. She joined Dr. Dowse in August 2006 and brings four years of experience in pediatrics. She also has a background as Research Study Coordinator.

Dr. Miller completed her undergraduate, graduate degree and residency at the University of Arizona. She is a member of American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Miller was born in Panama, Florida. Throughout her childhood, her dad served in the military so Dr. Miller grew up in various parts of the world including Thailand and Greece, but has mainly lived in Arizona.

She and her husband, Mark, relocated to Cedar City from Arizona. Mark works as a history professor at Southern Utah University.

During her personal time, Dr. Miller likes spending time with Mark and their two little girls, Delaney and Regan. They enjoy hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. Dr. Miller also enjoys snow skiing, and hopes to do more of it in the winter.

Darlene Jones-Wilcox

Darlene Jones-Wilcox, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Darlene Jones-Wilcox, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is a Family Nurse Practitioner with special interest in adolescence and teenage female care. She has been with Premier Pediatrics for five years.

Prior to working at Premier Pediatrics, Darlene worked for Dixie Regional Medical Center and Valley View Medical Center on the medical surgical and same day surgery floors.

Currently, she is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Darlene received her Associates degree in Nursing through Weber State University. There, she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She later received her Bachelors degree in the Science of Nursing through Weber State University. Upon completion of her Bachelors degree, Darlene was given an Academic Achievement Award. Darlene obtained her Masters degree in the Science of Nursing from the University of Utah.

Darlene was born in Northridge, California and moved to Beaver, Utah at the age of 16. She has lived in Utah for 30 years, and has called Cedar City her home for 18 of the years.

In her personal time, Darlene enjoys spending time with her husband, Bryan, her five children and her five grandchildren. She also likes playing volleyball, racquetball, any water sports and taking vacations to Lake Powell.

Dayne Johnson

Dayne Johnson, PA-C

Dayne Johnson, PA-C works as a Physician Assistant for Premier Pediatrics. Before joining Dr. Robert Dowse in Cedar City, he spent six months working in a family practice in Cedar City, Utah.

Dayne received his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2002 from Southern Utah University in Cedar City, Utah. Two years later, he obtained his graduate degree from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon.

His focus is on urgent care and pediatrics, and he is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

During his personal time, Dayne likes being with his wife, Krista, and their three children. He also enjoys landscaping, fishing and snow skiing.

Gia D. Miller

Becky Phillips, Office Manager

Becky Phillips is the Office Manager for Premier Pediatrics. Prior to joining Dr. Robert Dowse at Premier Pediatrics, Becky worked for the State of Utah for 15 years. There, she worked with the homeless and people insured under Medicaid. In addition, Becky also worked in the front office and back office of a medical clinic for 20 years.

Becky is a member of the Pediatric Managers Association. She is also on the panel with Select Health to voice input for the Cedar City area and to represent the pediatric community.

Becky was born in Twin Falls, Idaho and raised in Ogden, Utah. She relocated to Cedar City to work for Premier Pediatrics. She and her husband, Jim, really enjoy living in Cedar City.

In her free time, Becky likes spending time with her four children and 11 grandchildren. She enjoys yard work, crafts and is an avid reader. Becky also likes walking and has completed the St. George Marathon twice.

Bonnie Imlay

Bonnie Imlay, R.N. / Lab Manager

Bonnie was born and raised in Fountain Green Utah.  She graduated with her Associates Degree from Snow College and also received her L.P.N from Snow College.  She then received her Bachelors Degree in Nursing at Southern Utah University.  She and her husband Ben love to travel and recently took a Caribbean Cruise.  They also enjoy camping, sports and anything else in the outdoors.

Jennifer Mortensen

Jennifer Mortensen, Billing Specialist

Jennifer grew up in Sanpete County and attended Gunnison Valley High School. She and her husband Bart have two kids and love spending time together in the outdoors, camping and hiking.

Ginny Shortt

Ginny Shortt, Human Resources Director

Ginny grew up in Castle Dale (Emory County) Utah and moved to Cedar City 2.5 years ago when her husband accepted a job here. She and her husband have two kids a 9 year old boy and a 2.5 year old girl. There family loves to camp, fish and go four wheeling together.
